List of Conditions
Some of the most common GI disorders include:
GERD – Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease
GERD refers to a disorder that causes chronic reflux of stomach acid into the esophagus. GERD is characterized by frequent and intense heartburn, chest pain, and burning in the throat. If left untreated, GERD can lead to serious complications, including ulcers. Dr. Marc Edelstein can help you with a variety of treatment options to minimize GERD, and Dr. Susan Edelstein is an expert in treating infant/child GERD.
IBD – Inflammatory Bowel Disease, including Crohn’s and Colitis
The term IBD describes a variety of conditions that cause inflammation of the digestive tract, including Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis. If you have symptoms like abdominal pain, diarrhea, cramping, rectal bleeding and fever, you may have a form of IBD. We can help you with effective diagnosis and a wide range of treatment options.
Liver Disease
bhg specializes in the evaluation of abnormal liver tests and the management of acute and chronic liver disease, including Hepatitis A, B, and C.
Gallstones
Gallstones are particles that accumulate in the bile (fluid made by your liver to digest fat) stored in your gallbladder. Gallstones cause complications if they block a duct that transfers bile from the gallbladder to the digestive system. Many people don’t experience symptoms; but stomach pain originating in the upper right part of the belly and moving into the upper back or shoulder blade is a possible warning sign. Dr. Marc Edelstein can perform imaging procedures to detect Gallstones and he can refer you to a specialist for treatment.
Hemorrhoids
Hemorrhoids are swollen veins in the anal canal. Although they can be very painful, they are typically not a serious health risk. Symptoms include rectal bleeding, itching, and pain. bhg will offer you several treatment options based on the type of hemorrhoids you have and the severity of your symptoms.
IBS – Irritable Bowel Syndrome
IBS is a chronic intestinal disorder that occurs when the movement of the digestive system does not operate correctly. Symptoms include cramping, bloating, stomach pain, diarrhea, or constipation. Although there is no cure for IBS, we can create a long-term treatment plan to alleviate your specific symptoms and improve your overall health and comfort level.
Other Gastrointestinal Conditions
Dr. Marc Edelstein also diagnoses and treats many other GI disorders, including Barrett's esophagus, ulcer disease, abominal pain, diarrhea, constipation, gas/bloating, colon polyps, diverticulosis and diverticulititis, GI malignancies, and pancreatitis.
Dr. Susan Edelstein specializes in diagnosing and treating infant GERD and many other troublesome digestive disorders in babies and children.
